Olympic Stadium Phnom Penh

The eye-catching Olympic stadium, or National Sports Complex, was designed by Vann Molyvann and completed in 1963 for the aborted SEA Games. It now houses an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an indoor volleyball court and a running track, as well as being a focal point for daily outdoor exercise. Go there at sunset to watch (or take part in) group aerobics, running and walking activities around the track, followed by an iced fruit juice from one of the many vendors who flock to the area. The stadium also has a darker side; during the Khmer Rouge era, it was used as the site of executions by the Khmer Rouge of officials.
